In a joint collaboration between the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence (CSCE) and Haiilo, a new report explores the evolving role of internal communication as a strategic driver within organisations.

The survey of 200+ global communication professionals uncovers some critical truths:

1. More than 70% believe they’re ready to be strategic yet struggle to define what that means in practice.

2. Two-thirds rate their strategic skills highly, but often fall short in demonstrating those skills to senior leadership.

3. Only a fraction feel their work is recognized and valued by top management.

Sia Papageorgiou, managing partner, CSCE, said: “These findings highlight an urgent issue: While communication professionals are ready and capable of adding value, they face barriers in demonstrating their impact. Challenges like lack of time, resources, and crucially, recognition from leadership are preventing many from playing a truly strategic role.

Our latest research report – a collaboration with the team at Haiilo – offers an unfiltered view of internal communication today, revealing that, as communication professionals, we still have work to do to establish ourselves as true strategic partners.”

Kevin Hähnlein, head of growth, North America, Haiilo, said: “This report emphasizes the need for prompt action: it’s time for internal communication professionals to step up. Leaders don’t care about clicks or open rates—they care about results that drive business outcomes. So, let’s show them the ROI behind internal communication efforts.”
