The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) has launched its 2024 UK Census, to measure key attributes of the PR and communications industry and assess its key challenges and opportunities.
The survey will cover a broad range of topics, providing insight into the industry’s size, scale and output, and will measure characteristics into the industry’s workforce, including practitioners’ social status, equality, diversity and inclusion, and issues affecting staff retention.
Key areas of focus:
Size, scale, and scope of the industry: The survey will provide a detailed analysis of the size, scale, and scope of the PR and communications industry, highlighting its current impact and future potential.
Current issues facing PR practitioners: The study will address key issues and challenges currently faced by PR professionals, setting the agenda for the direction of the profession in the coming years.
Social status: The survey will explore the social mobility of professionals within the industry, providing data on socio-economic backgrounds and how they impact career progression.
Gender pay gap: Building on previous findings, the survey will delve deeper into gender disparities in pay, aiming to highlight progress and areas still needing improvement.
Diversity and inclusion: An assessment of diversity across all levels, the survey will measure representation of ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, and people with disabilities.
Neurodiversity: The census will include a focus on neurodiversity, aiming to uncover how the industry can better support neurodivergent professionals and foster an inclusive working environment.
Staff retention: Understanding what drives retention and turnover will be essential for shaping future industry standards and creating supportive workplaces.
