A conference exploring the contribution of public relations and strategic communications to the building a sense of community in Ireland will take place on Thursday, 24 October at Croke Park, Dublin. Over 200 delegates are expected to attend.

Organised by the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII), the theme for the conference is ‘Community of PRactice – Building Community in Divisive Times.’

A community of practice is a group of people or professionals who are informally bound together by shared interests. This year’s conference will explore how the community of communication professionals can develop creative new approaches and innovative solutions to tackle misinformation and disinformation.

The Conference will open with a special keynote from former Irish President, Mary Robinson (pictured) on the power of words in divisive times. Mary Robinson is an Adjunct Professor of climate justice at Trinity College Dublin and the chair of The Elders. She also served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Additionally, the Conference will also hear live from Professor Jim Macnamara from Sydney, Australia. Jim is an internationally recognised leader in the evaluation of public communication and for his ground-breaking studies of organizational listening by, and in, governments, corporations, and NGOs.

The day will also feature a panel discussion, expert speakers, on a wide range of topical issues and case studies covering all aspects of community building, in real life and online, including the GAA and Black and Irish.
