JOANNA Parsons has launched a new business, The Curious Route, an internal communication consultancy offering training, mentoring and consulting.

The consultancy’s name “The Curious Route ” showcases Parsons’ curiosity-fueled approach to internal communication. She believes in taking the path of curiosity and listening deeply to solve business problems through communication. She has a flair for innovation and creativity, and going beyond the mundane to really engage employees.

The Curious Route consultancy can help with internal communication strategy development, reviewing your internal communication system to identify improvements, training teams on effective internal communication practices, 1:1 mentoring to level up your skills and confidence, workshops on measurement, AI for communicators, effective newsletters and more, helping communicators be more creative and innovative to engage their audience, and setting up a new internal communication function from scratch.

Parsons’ newsletter has readers from more than 65 countries worldwide, and an engaged following of 10k+ on LinkedIn where she regularly posts educational and informative posts on internal communication. 

Parsons is a multi-award winning communications leader with more than a decade of experience and a proven track record of success. She is a lecturer in Strategic Internal Communication at the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII), where she helps communicators move from a tactical to a strategic approach to their work. She also designs and delivers bespoke workshops for internal communicators, including “how to create a newsletter for your employees with love”, “how to measure what matters in communication” and “how to use AI as your internal communications assistant”. Parsons is currently writing a book on innovation and creativity in internal communication which will be published in early 2024.

She sits on the Board of Directors with the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC). She was awarded an IoIC Fellowship in 2022, a global lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the profession. 

Previously she was head of internal communications with An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police force. She was the first person in the 100-year history of the Irish police to hold this title and she won four communication awards during that role. 

Parsons was a finalist for “Leader of the Year” in the 2023 Gartner Marketing and Communications Awards and for “Internal Communicator of the Year” in the Internal Communications and Engagement Awards 2023. She has appeared on multiple popular podcasts, including The Internal Comms Podcast, Happier At Work, A View from the Top and The Engaging Internal Comms Podcast. 

She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Executive Leadership from University College Cork, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Social Policy from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters in International Development from University College Dublin.
